Västkustbanan, Ängelholm-Maria station, double track extension

One of Sweden's largest noise barrier projects has been completed on schedule and is now open for traffic. We at FORSTER FONOCON are honored to have participated and contributed to the Swedish Transport Administration’s considerable investments in public transport along the Swedish West Coast. As the result of this project there is now a double track between Ängelholm station in the south and Maria station in the north.

The project has been designed to create additional capacity and quality for this part of the West Coast Railway line. It involved the expansion and upgrade of 24 km of railway tracks. The stations at Ängelholm, Kattarp, Ödåkra and Maria were completely rebuilt. The tracks can now cope with trains passing at a speed of 200–250 km/hr. But greater speed also means a rise in noise pollution. FONOCON noise barriers effectively limit the problem by providing spaces of tranquility.

We at FORSTER FONOCON are grateful to have been given the opportunity to contribute to securing the residents’ undisturbed tranquility. A full 11 km of noise barriers have been built– one of the all-time largest noise protection projects in Sweden. A project of this size requires solid planning and detailed know-how. The noise barrier must cope with the noise of passing high speed trains as well as construction and design requirements. Here we would like to extend our thanks to the general contractor SKANSKA, who secured our early involvement in the process. We also want to express our appreciation to TerraWing AB and R&R Markentreprenad AB.
